Wholesale distributor · reporting integrity

Before fixing the report,
check the question it answers.

A wholesale distributor needed a response-time metric and customer-level reporting it could use. We repaired the definition and the records behind the report.

Our responsibility

Metric definition + connected records

Recorded result

A corrected reporting model.

What this establishes

This does not establish a reduction in response time.

The starting point

The report was answering the wrong question.

A wholesale distributor’s response-time report used the wrong starting event. The number looked precise, but its definition did not match the question the team needed to answer.

Customer-level analysis was also limited. The reporting work needed to connect the relevant records and keep attribution understandable when staff changed.

The delivery

Correct the definition and the records beneath it.

We corrected the response-time metric’s starting point, connected the relevant records for customer-level analysis and made attribution maintainable as staff changed.

These were related responsibilities: define the event being measured, make the right records available and keep the ownership of that information usable over time.

The reasoning

A faster-looking number can hide the same wait.

If the clock starts after someone has already waited, a response-time figure leaves that earlier delay out. Improving a dashboard’s appearance would not resolve that definition problem.

The first decision was therefore what the metric should mean. Only then could we assess whether the underlying records and reporting logic supported it.

What changed

A corrected metric and a more useful reporting model.

The delivered work corrected the metric definition, enabled customer-level analysis through the connected records and made attribution maintainable through staff changes.

This was a reporting repair. The recorded result does not establish that response times themselves fell.

Bring a report your team questions and one real record behind it. We can follow how that record becomes a number and decide what needs to change.
